Your Guide to Success! 🚀

Booking Time Off

Taking time off is important. We’ve made it easy to let us know when you’ll be away so we can support you.

To book vacation or any other time off, just fill out the Time Off form available in the Goodlawyer app. We’ll help you set clear expectations with clients, adjust your mandate, or coordinate leave coverage (if needed), and take extra care not to bug you while you’re on your time off 🌴

There are no limits or restrictions, just let us know so we can support you appropriately!

Notifying Your Clients

Before submitting your Time Off notice, you must notify your active clients about your plans. We recommend a quick email letting them know the dates you’ll be away. If the client requires backfill coverage during your time off, please include that in your Time Off notice (see example below).

What to Include in Your Description

  • Start and end dates of your time away are required.
  • Whether you’re taking a partial or full day(s) off
  • Any special notes or circumstances you want to include (e.g. limited email access, different time zones, strict no contact due to a passing, requesting backfill coverage from another lawyer, etc.)
  • Here are some examples of good, informative descriptions:
    • I’ll be visiting family and will be in ET mostly offline, available only for urgent matters. There has been a death in the family so I would appreciate as minimal contact as possible as we will be doing memorials and celebration of life throughout the week.
I’ll be touring the West Coast in a camper van, but will continue working half days throughout the 2 weeks away. My availability will be primarily in the mornings.
Going all over South East Asia for 3 weeks. I will not be available for any work and the client has requested some backfill coverage while I’m away. Please contact me to arrange this additional support.
  • Checkbox indicating you have notified your client is required.

Once you submit the form, your account manager will be notified of your time off and will factor it into mandate planning and client communication.

Editing or Cancelling a Time Off Request

If your plans change, no problem. Just head back to the same form to edit or cancel an existing request.
