Active Mandate
Origination & Referral Income
How to earn additional income by introducing new clients to Goodlawyer or referring other lawyers to the network.
Goodlawyer offers two other completely optional ways to earn income beyond working on mandates:
- Introducing new clients to the platform (Origination)
- Referring other lawyers to the network (Referrals).
Both programs are designed to reward the relationships you already have. Neither requires you to sell anything — just make the connection, and we'll take it from there.
Origination: Bringing In New Clients
If you know a mid-market or enterprise business that could benefit from fractional legal support, you can refer them to Goodlawyer and earn a share of the Goodlawyer Master Services Fee for as long as that client's first mandate runs.
What You Earn
You receive 30% of Goodlawyer's Master Service Fee on the referred client's first mandate, up to 6% of the total monthly invoice value.
Here's a quick example:
- Mandate monthly value: $8,000
- Goodlawyer service fee (20%): $1,600
- Your origination credit (30%): $480/month
Over a year, that's $5,760 from a single origination — passively, with no burden to you other than the initial intro.
Origination payments are calculated monthly based on the total client invoice and may vary month to month.
What Makes A Good Lead
First, it is important that you have an actual connection with the leads you submit. These should be people in your network that you can make an introduction to. Please do not refer people you do not know or job postings you see online.
The leads most likely to convert and earn you origination income are:
- Senior legal decision-makers (GC, AGC, VP Legal, CFO) at mid-market and enterprise companies
- Dealing with meaningful legal volume, typically $50,000–$1,000,000 in annual legal spend
- High volumes of B2B contracts and/or operations in regulated industries
- Rapidly growing teams, new products, new divisions, and internationalization
How to Submit A Lead
- Submit the origination form in the Goodlawyer App — include as much context as you can about the company and their legal needs.
- Our team will review and qualify the lead, then follow up with you.
- Once approved, you make a warm email introduction. That introduction is the most important step — it's a trust signal that meaningfully improves our ability to close (and for you to earn orgination).
After the intro, our sales team handles everything. You can stay as involved or as hands-off as you like.
Getting Paid
Origination payments are calculated monthly and paid out through Stripe alongside our regular invoicing cycle. You'll continue receiving payments for as long as the referred client's first mandate remains active. If you haven't been on a mandate or originated any new clients for three years, payments will cease.
Note that you will need to have a Stripe account setup in order to receive payments.
For detailed Origination terms and conditions, please refer to Goodlawyer’s Terms of Service.
Lawyer Referrals: Introducing New Lawyers
If you know an experienced lawyer who'd be a strong fit for the Goodlawyer network, you can refer them directly. When a lawyer you referred lands their first mandate, you earn a $1,000 bonus.
There's no form to fill out, just point them toward Goodlawyer and let us know you made the introduction. We'll track it from there.
