PRE-READING (10 minutes)

Managing Your Availability & Preferences

How to set your preferences and availability for our Sales team to match you with the right opportunities.

This is where you tell us what you're looking for. We use it to match you to the right mandates, so the clearer and more honest it is, the better the opportunities we bring you.

There are two halves: Work Preferences is what you want from your practice right now, and About You is the context behind it — who you are, what drives you, and the work and clients you're after.

Work Preferences

Tell us what you're open to and what you're after: the kinds of mandates, your availability, and the shape that works for you. Understanding the different mandate types is key to setting this well, so it's worth reading Mandate Types → first.

⚠️

We only match lawyers to live, active opportunities with start dates in the next 8 weeks. If you can't take something on right now, set your availability to “Off”.

We match on the whole picture, not a single checkbox. If you say you want two-day mandates, we'll still reach out about a one- or three-day role, or even a secondment when you're a genuinely strong fit and the rest lines up: your goals, the client type, the work itself.

💡

Keep it current. Your preferences shift as your life does, so every ~90 days we'll ask you to confirm they're still accurate. And if you ever need to pause, just switch off "open to new work" — you keep your place and can turn it back on any time.

About You

This is the context that helps us match you for fit, not just availability: your current situation, what motivates you (flexibility, stability, variety, growth, fewer politics, higher earnings), your goals, and what you're looking for.

These things typically change less often than Work Preferences so we won’t send you refresh reminders, but if something in your current situation changes, please update your profile accordingly.

Making the Most of it

  • Be specific. "Commercial contracts and privacy for B2B SaaS" beats "corporate generalist" — specificity makes you the obvious choice, not vaguely qualified. That goes for your resume and Linkedin.
  • Tell us what you genuinely want. You don't need to say yes to everything to stay in the mix — we use judgment around your preferences, so we'd rather know what you're actually after. We believe waiting for the right mandates leads to better outcomes.
  • Keep the whole picture sharp. The clearer your preferences and your context, the better we can sequence the right opportunities for you.
